On her sixteenth birthday, Anastasija Parker's present winds up being the shock of a lifetime. When her mom referred to her absentee dad as a deadbeat it was actually half true -- he's a vampire. And a king, no less. A king who wants his daughter to assume her rightful position at his side. But, thanks to Ana's mother, the blood of a witch also runs through her veins....
Too bad vampires and witches are mortal enemies.
With her parents gearing up for an all out brawl over her destiny, Ana's about ready to scream. But things get even crazier when a male witch and a brooding bad boy vampire start vying for her affection. Then the barely leashed tension between the vampires and the witches starts to boil over, and Ana has to figure out once and for all if she wants to become heir to her dad's throne. And deciding your eternal destiny is a pretty big deal for a girl who just wants to get through high school.
I think it has become a habit, that once a week a attack the new releases shelf. I admit, that the cover was the first thing to pull me. A girl wth raven dark hair and two different colored eyes. Picking it up I realized this book had both vampires and witches, which are probably my favorite two things to read about. Recently books with the mox of both witches and vampires have come up and I'm most than estatic to read them. Almost to Die For by Tate Hallaway was a really short book for my taste, but she was descriptive and I liked Anastasija Ramses Parker, right away.
But this was one of those books, i had moments, where I wanted her to do this, or to not do that. It was fast read, but it held on tight to my concentration and overall I liked it. Another reason why i picked up the book was because of review on the cover, by Rachel Caine. I love Rachel Caine's Morganville Vampire Series, and since she said a nice thing about Almost to Die For, i just had to pick it up. The book didn't disappoint me.
I give this book a 7/10. It was good and quick read, and i liked the story. If you see it, don't hesitate to pick it up. :]
